Gold Flake: This ad, released in October 1972 in the Illustrated Weekly of India, is for Gold Flake Filter Kings one of Gold Flake’s many brands, sold majorly in India. Gold Flake was created in 1901 in the UK, by the Imperial Tobacco Company, now known as the Indian Tobacco Company and continues to be a bestseller in this subcontinent. It was launched in India in the 60s, and was positioned as a brand to be used by the crème de la crème of the nation, which was portrayed by its equivalence to gold, as shown in this ad and several others.
